It's Hunting Season....

It's been I'd say 7, 8, maybe even nine years so I am way overdue. Yes I have managed to bag another deer. My weapon of choice this year....Toyota Camry.

I was all ready to go out on South Side on Friday, November 14, 2008 when I decided that the black boots I had on were way too old and decrepit and I simply could not be seen in public with them. If was after nine pm and I was on the turnpike heading toward rt 79. I decided to stop in Cranberry and get new shoes. The only two places that were open were Walmart and Target. There was no way in hell I was going to buy Walmart shoes so I made a right off route 19 onto 288 East toward Target. Target did not have the best selection of boots - I was looking for boots that looked close to my hooker boots which I had recently thrown out because I broke the heal when I fell down Steve's stairs. Anyway, Target had a crappy hooker boot selection so I looked at shoes instead. I did find the cutest pair of black high heals and they were half off so I was pretty excited. The shoes only came to eight dollars. Little did I know that those shoes would end up costing me over a two hundred by the time I paid my deductible and car rental. After my purchase I pulled out of the Target plaza onto rt 288 heading back to Cranberry to get on 79. I did not make it very far. A deer came bolting out of a field from the right and I was in the left lane. There were no other cars beside me but there was tons of traffic behind me. I saw the deer as it was a few feet away from the car and I slammed on my brakes. Slamming on the brakes by the way does nothing because even though you are trying to stop these intelligent animals keep running toward you at a high rate of speed. It all happened so fast. Ha ha...isn't that what everyone says after they have been in an accident! Anyway, I was pulling over to the side of the road thinking the damage would not be that bad because it only ran into the side of my car. I got out of the car just in time to see at least three or four other people hitting the same deer - it was chaos. All of a sudden there was a ton of traffic. I looked at my car and realized that the deer at some point the deer was actually on my hood as there was a huge deer imprint. I did not even remember hitting the deer from the front...I must have closed my eyes!

I called the police to get a report and I was told to drive my car home and that there was a terrible accident on rt 19 and a police officer could not get to me until morning at the earliest. That was Cranberry township police. I began to call my insurance company to report the accident when I saw flashing lights about a mile back. About ten minutes later a police officer from Adams township pulled up to block traffic (the deer still laying on the road and still being hit by cars). He told me that he could not write a report because they do not do that for deer but he took my name and information and jotted down some notes on his notepad. He gave me his name and number and told me if I had any problems with the insurance company they could call him. He told me that he had just responded to another "deer accident" a mile down the road. Holy crap was a heard of deer running across rt 288 ??? So anyway that's my story. I took the car into the shop Wednesday and had it back by Friday. He said my car had "typical deer damage".
The cost of auto repairs $3,110
Cost of crappy Dodge Avenger Rental $75
Reliving another deer slaying....priceless.

You have GOT to be kidding me. I remember when we first met and you telling us of the terrible luck (or good luck - depending on how you look at it) you had with hitting deer. Didn't you hit two deer in one season once? Now you and LAM have both hit deer this year. Anyone still wonder why John goes back to that very same area every year to get his deer? (with a bow or gun, that is). Oh kate, I'm glad you survived it. You know, you've killed more deer with your car than most hunters ever do with a gun!
